An Angel Indeed

Saturday, February 25th, 2006

My sister in law, who is working in a theater company, says that Angel Locsin was there every night last week. My first reaction was to ask her, "mabait?" And she said yes, as in yes.

She has met lots of celebrities already, and most of the time when I ask her, the answer would be either, mukhang showbiz lang, or mukha namang mabait, like she’s uncertain.

But this time she’s sure, there was also this one person, a PA, a person being bossed around by actors and actresses also told her that Angel is really a good person.

Wala lang, sabi ko lang I’d be really dissappointed if I found out that she’s only nice and charming on cam.

Isa pang mukhang napaka bait na tao on cam, Dennis Trillo. Kailan ko kaya malalaman kung talagang mabait siya? Wala lang.

Master of Disguise?

Thursday, February 23rd, 2006

In an attempt to feed the boys (papa and son) more veggies, I have resorted to hiding them.

For example, mashed potatoes, Karl’s fave, mixed with mashed cauliflower. Ground meat dishes (lumpia, hamburger, torta), mixed with lots of carrots. And now I discovered that finely minced cabbage can be perfectly hidden in fried rice, just fry the cabbage first before the rice to remove the smell and taste. Carrots and peas can be added too. I don’t know why, their pedia also can’t explain it why of all the greens, kids love peas.

Ok, time to cook now…

Little Drummer Boy

Thursday, February 23rd, 2006

It’s been weeks, since Karl started going gaga over drums. He would bang on anything, sometimes he even pretends to be banging on something, I think it is called air drums (like in this picture).

It was cool at first, but sometimes it gets too noisy in here. Sometimes I consider music lessons, and buying a small drum set for him, hoping that someday, somehow, he will make music instead of noise. We can’t seem to stop him from banging on things anyway. I’m still not sure if that is the right thing to do. Oh well…

Yet Another HIV Scare

Sunday, February 19th, 2006

Today I receive an SMS warning about a person infected with HIV who is spreading his infected blood through catsup dispensers in fastfood chains.

To me it sounds imposible that someone can put his/her blood inside those dispensers without anyone seing them. But it remided me of those other stories abouth spreading the virus, and reminded me of my previous questions.

Before, there were stories saying that an infected person was spreading the virus through syringe that he/she used and then either he/she would bury it in the sand where somebody can step on it, or by pricking somebody with it, usually they hide in dark places like the theater.

My question is, if that is possible, meaning a tiny amount of blood can infect another person, what if an infected person goes to a salon, have a manicure/pedicure and he/she is wounded in the process, would the next person who gets a manicure or pedicure get infected as well? Not all salons here have those machines that sterilize salon equipments, and who knows if the attendants really use them.

Wala lang…

South Beach Diet Blah

Tuesday, February 14th, 2006

Ever since my sister in law started this South Beach Diet thing, I find myself eating more, lots more than I usually do. Might be a good thing, if I am also eating what she is eating, but I just cannot give up on carbs and sweets, and sweets and did I mention sweets?

People who know me also know that I love to eat. I am not thin but I am still within my ideal weight, so I still don’t have enough motivation to control what I eat. Although I must admit that I do need to lose some inches off my waist.

But, as I said, when she started her diet, it seemed to heighten my cravings, for some reason I do not know.

This got me thinking, since I already eat a lot, and south beach requires you to eat a lot but with certain foods to avoid, should I…? But this is too expensive for me. Carbs are cheap stomach fillers, a cup of rice is definitely cheaper than a cup of veggies. And the bigger question is, can I?

Me and Valentine’s Day

Monday, February 13th, 2006

They say that Librans sometimes tend to be indecisive. Well, that’s me at times, Valentine’s day celebration would be a great example.

I agree that this is one occasion that is "invented" by greeting card companies as with mother’s day etc, to generate more money. Prices flowers and chocolates skyrocket. Restaurants and other romantic places are packed. Seems like a lot of hassle to show your "love" to your partner, when one can do so any other day. Sometimes I think that Valentine’s is like All Souls’ day, that it is for people who forget to give love or does not have the chance, or is too busy to feel love any other day that a special day is needed to be set aside for that purpose. And that it has to be an international thing so that in case you forget, you will be reminded by others who do not.

On the other hand, with all the love and the mush in the air, not to mention all the hype, there are times that I do want to have a little celebration.

Up to now, I still don’t have a stand as to celebrate or not to celebrate Valentine’s day, or any other greeting card company invented occasion for that matter.

Hot Air Balloon Fiesta

Saturday, February 11th, 2006

We were there on the first fiesta day. We know that there might be a few glitches or more, being the first day, but we were also hoping that there won’t be a lot of people watching since it was a Thursday. We were right, about the glitches and about the volume of people watching.

But, we did’t expect a plane crash. Yes, one plane performing aerobatics took a dive and the pilot was not able to recover. Good thing that he just obtained a few scratches on the forehead.

The rest of the day was ok. There was a lot of idle times because of power failures, and some other factors which I am not aware of. But there are rides, tiangge, and good wind to fly kites :), plenty of ways to kill time.

Karl enjoyed kite flying. A lot of people, I guess students who need to make a report, took pictures of him since he was the smallest/youngest one flying a kite.

Apart from the plane crash, I would say that over all, it was a good day.

Singapore Math

Sunday, February 5th, 2006

I’ve been looking for a good and free homeschooling site for mathematics.
