Naglolokong Friendster

Wednesday, April 26th, 2006

hmph.

Teaching Pilosopo Tasyo

Tuesday, April 18th, 2006

As I’ve written before, Karl is a good reader already, he can write too when he wants to. So I tried to test his number skills.

He can count up to 20 with missing number 15, up to 100 with lots of numbers missing.

I tried to teach him simple addition, I start with just adding 1 to a number. I explained that when you add 1, you will just get the number that follows the number added to 1. Although sometimes he would give the number that comes before, I’m sure he got the idea.

So 6 + 1 is 7, 1 + 1 is 2, etc. One time I asked him what is 12 + 1, his answer… 1 then explained "tingnan mo mama yung clock, pagkatapos ng 12 ay 1", then laughed, then gave the correct answer.

Karl’s Question

Sunday, April 9th, 2006

Karl asks a lot of questions, typical for toddlers. But I didn’t expect that at this early, I would be caught offguard.

He asked me, Mama, ano po yung virgin? (Are you thinking what I’m thinking B1? I think I am B2. Bastos ka B1!!! Ang Bastos mo!)

I was stunned for a moment. But then I remember, virgin coconut oil and virgin olive oil, he must be referring to one of these. So I answered as best I could. Then asked him why he asked that…

E kasi po nakasulat doon sa nabili natin, virgin honey e.

Whew!

People’s Park Tagaytay

Saturday, April 8th, 2006

Finally, I can write another entry! So as scheduled, here is my story about People’s Park

Like I said, we went there despite the clouds around the area. People’s Park’s main attraction is it’s 360 degrees viewdeck. It overlooks 3 main bodies of water, Laguna Lake, Taal Lake and I think Manila de Bay, not sure about the last one. Well, since, the place is engulfed in fog, there is nothing to see. But we went anyway, just for the experience, and besides it is a big place, there must be something there besides the view.

Vehicles are not allowed to enter the main gate, but there is a parking space just outside. We have to proceed on foot for another 25 meters I think, going up.

There is an entrance fee of 15php per head, would be ok if it was a clear day, but a rip off that day. The place was run down, check the pics. It might have been a beautiful place during its time, since it was built byt the Marcos administration in preparation for the visit of former US president Reagan, but it was not finished because of Marcos’s political problems. There is a rare picture of this place in the Royal Taal Inn website.

This is what it looks like today.Peoples_park2_1 Peoples_park3_1 Peoples_park4_1 Peoples_park6_1 Peoples_park5 Peoples_park7 Peoples_park8

About the last 2 pics, it’s not really cold, just a bit wet, I think we’re in the rainclouds. It’s just my little "artista" doing her thing. :)

When we were about to leave, we had a little surprise… Parking is not free! Another 20php for parking. If these people were charging everybody no matter what the situation is, I expect that they should at least have maintained the place better than they did. So P15 per head is not that big, but if you would boast of a place as a tourist destination of course one would expect better. If their only claim to fame is the fantastic view, they should not charge for fees when there is none.

On the other hand, let this be a warning to other tourists, there is nothing else there aside from the view, so don’t go on cloudy days.

Tagaytay Trip Day Two

Monday, April 3rd, 2006

Our accomodation package includes a free continental breakfast for 2, which is hotdogsilog :) and coffee. After eating, we went through the Nature Adventure Trail inside the Picnic Grove. It is a 500m path through a forest(?) and has a nice view of the lake.

Then we shopped for souvenirs, and after that we let the kids play until we are just about to check out.

We had lunch at Leslie’s, we ordered bulalo and sisig, we have no idea how big the servings was. Then the food came, it was enough to feed 6 hungry people! Oh my! Although it ws delicious, we hardly touched the bulalo except for the soup because we can’t stop eating the sisig. When we were done with the sisig, there was no more space for the bulalo, so we just took the bulalo home and prayed that it will not spoil.

After lunch we visited the Japanese Friendship Garden. It was ok, there’s an entrance fee of P7.50 per adult. It was peaceful, good for meditation.

It was still early, we should not be anywhere in manila until 7pm (number coding scheme), so we decided to visit the People’s Park in the Sky although we know that we will not be able to see anything because looking at it from where we were, we can see that it was covered with clouds. But we went there anyway, just for the experience.

Trip to Tagaytay

Monday, April 3rd, 2006

We went to Tagaytay last Thursday. Before we checked in our cottage, we decided to drop by the Nature Discovery Camp since it was too early. Karl had Naturediscovery3his first encounter with the makahiya plant. He was thrilled to see a moving plant. Although there was a nice playground there, every now and then he would stop and look for makahiya. We spent about an hour or so there, we would have stayed longer but it was raining and we didn’t rent a cottage there. (Here is Karl inspecting the makahiya)

After that, we went to the Picnic Grove, to check in. It’s 1400php a night, the room was bare, very bare. Just 2 beds and a comfort room. We were not able to even use the cabinet because it was full of dust, kinda like saw dust, because of termite activities. The screen was not installed properly so insects can go in. Anyway, we always find a way to have a good time no matter the situation. So after unpacking, or not since our stuff stayed in the bag, we went to the viewdeck inside the picnic grove, it has an amazing view of the lake and the volcano, would have been better if it was not foggy. Picnicgrove20 Since I didn’t know exactly what we could do in Tagaytay, I brought a bubble maker for backup. The kids had lots of fun. While we were enjoying the view, they were playing with bubbles.

After that we had dinner, I wanted to eat somewhere na wala sa Manila, but we haven’t tested anything except Mushroom Burger, but Glenn doesn’t like it, and besides there is already a Mushroom Burger branch here in West Ave. So we drove around and look for any interesting place, then we saw, Carlos Pizza, we enjoyed the Carlos Pizza in Baguio, and so far we don’t know if they have branhes in Manila, so we tried it. It was a bit of a let down as compared to the Baguio branch, but still good.

After dinner, we went back to the cottage, and we were greeted by cockroaches eeww. After killing 3 roaches and cleaning ourselves, we were able to sleep.
